Programme background

This section provides information regarding the work of Suffolk Public Health and Communities, and the background for this programme.

Public Health has been defined as: ‘the art and science of preventing disease, prolonging life and promoting health through the organised efforts of society’ (WHO, 1988).

The Suffolk Public Health and Communities team (SPH and C) leads, influences and supports this work for the population of Suffolk, working with partner and stakeholder organisations.

PH and C’s Mission is: “Working in Partnership to build the foundations for Healthy People, Healthy Places, Healthy Futures, and safer, stronger, more resilient communities in Suffolk”.
