Suffolk County Council is to host an adult learning engagement event to highlight the learning opportunities and services available to adults in Suffolk.

The event, which will take place on Wednesday 9 November 2022 at Trinity Park, will provide information on a wide range of support for adults aged 19+ looking to get into training and/or employment.

At the event, attendees will be able to explore employment prospects, further education, training and/or volunteering opportunities. The event will be particularly beneficial for adults who have missed previous educational opportunities and/or come from groups with the highest level of needs.

There will be several stalls for prospective learners to visit and have discussions with potential employers and education providers. These include Apprenticeships Suffolk, Inspire Suffolk, Suffolk New College, the University of Suffolk, the University of East Anglia, the Anglia Care Trust, and many more. Several providers will also be holding workshops throughout the day on various topics such as well-being and stress, training funding, and career opportunities.

Multiply Suffolk

A new initiative called Multiply Suffolk will also be launching at the event. Multiply will offer adults who do not already have a GCSE grade C/4 or higher in Maths or equivalent, and need to improve their numeracy, free flexible courses that fit around their lives.

Adults across Suffolk who want to improve their numeracy skills can sign up for free courses and activities thanks to a £3.7m investment from the government aimed at boosting opportunities for more people to progress and secure well-paid jobs.

Councillor Rachel Hood, Cabinet Member for Education, SEND, and skills said:

This is an exciting event which will enable prospective learners to access employment and training opportunities. Suffolk County Council is committed to supporting learning programmes that assist the most vulnerable and marginalised in Suffolk to access the first steps in learning & employment.Adult learning has the power to change lives – for individuals – for families - and for communities, and we are dedicated to ensuring that we do all within our power to support our learning providers.
