Supporting Suffolk's homes

How we work with local residents and landlords to improve energy efficiency and save money on residents’ energy bills.

Suffolk County Council supports residents and landlords to reduce their carbon emissions, as well as their energy bills to have warmer, more energy efficient homes.

The following projects help install energy saving measures, such as insulation and solar panels, some of which for free.

Warm Homes Suffolk

Warm Homes Suffolk has been set up by councils in Suffolk to help households implement measures that reduce their fuel bills and also reduce carbon footprints, helping the county towards its target of Net Zero by 2030.

Funding comes from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero as part of its aim to upgrade the energy efficiency of properties across the UK.

Warm Homes Healthy People

Warm Homes Healthy People Suffolk wants to help the people of Suffolk live in homes that cost less to heat, so they can reduce their energy usage and enjoy lower bills.

It helps vulnerable people and families make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat, improving health and wellbeing.

Solar Together Suffolk

Solar Together Suffolk is a group-buying scheme which has helped over 2,100 homes and businesses in Suffolk to install solar panels and batteries.

The scheme helps homeowners feel confident that they are paying the right price for a high-quality installation from pre-approved installers, whilst increasing their independence from the grid and reducing their carbon emissions.

To date, Solar Together Suffolk has:

  • installed 24,000 solar panels at over 2,100 Suffolk properties
  • installed over 7,050kW of solar power
  • reduced over 41,100 tonnes of carbon emissions across the county.

Warm Homes Suffolk Loans

Suffolk County Council is offering interest-free loans to residents for energy efficiency upgrades to their homes. Measures such as insulation, solar panels, batteries, glazing, or heat pumps can be installed when applying for a loan of up to £15,000, which needs to be repaid over a maximum of seven years – at 0% interest.

Making homes more energy-efficient helps retain their heat and uses less energy, meaning homeowners can save on their energy bills and reduce their carbon emissions. A warm home also has a positive impact on health and well-being.

The scheme supports Suffolk’s Climate Emergency Plan, by increasing the number of properties which have energy-efficient and low carbon energy measures installed.

Suffolk County Council is partnering with Lendology CIC to deliver the £3 million interest-free loan scheme. Lendology CIC is an experienced Social Enterprise Lender, managing similar schemes with councils across the country.
