Apply for a traffic survey

How to apply for a highway equipment licence for automated traffic surveys (speed, volume, classification) in Suffolk.

Suffolk County Council reviews its fees on an annual basis. Please make sure you read through the application form to understand the current fees and conditions before you apply as these fees are generally non-refundable. Applications require 3 days notice to be processed.

To request a traffic survey

The traffic survey team can carry out speed, volume and classification traffic surveys at a charge of between £415 and £465 + VAT, depending on the type of survey requested and the characteristics of the survey site. This includes the cost of processing the data. Quotes can be provided for multiple sites.

Before you apply

Your application may be rejected if the proposed site is considered to be potentially dangerous to the public.

Contact Highways England on 0300 123 5000 if you want to apply for a licence on a trunk road.

The traffic survey licence fee is £100.
