Parenting programmes overview

Guidance about parenting support programmes in Suffolk, and how to book a place on a course.

Parenting programmes

Suffolk's Children and Young People Service are redesigning the way in which parenting interventions and support are delivered.

In view of this, there will be a delay while we work through existing referrals and transition into our new structure, which we anticipate being fully embedded by January 2025.

In the meantime, our parenting groups for the Autumn term (September to December 2024) are fully subscribed and we can take no more referrals. We are working to contact parents and referrers regarding referrals that have been made for programmes in the autumn term, to talk about joining arrangements or any alterations to these programmes

We will be publishing dates and joining information for the spring term, in due course.

There are online, self-learning resources available for parents and carers in the meantime, and we would signpost you to these:

  • We do have a selection of Solihull online courses free to anyone with a Suffolk Postcode which you can access and complete in your own time. To access these courses please use the In Our Place website and register by setting up an account. On the second page in the righthand corner use the access code: WOLSEY to take you to the landing page.
  • Resources are available for parents awaiting programmes around separation, or general support regarding relationships.
  • There is a large library of resources around better relationships, parenting, and boundaries, available from One Plus one.

If you feel that a family’s situation is escalating and needs 1:1 support, please make a referral through the Early Help Assessment Portal.

Parenting programmes are run by Suffolk County Council and partner organisations in the voluntary and community sector.

The programmes bring experienced workers, parents and carers together to:

  • discuss issues
  • share concerns
  • gain practical advice and information.
