Healthy Child Service and Family Hubs (0-5 services) user feedback

Health Visitors are registered midwives or nurses, who have additional specialist community public health nursing training (SCPHN). They work with families with children aged 0 to 5 years of age identifying individual health needs as early as possible to improve health and wellbeing. Alongside home visits, we offer groups for parents and toddlers at Family Hub buildings including:

• Infant feeding including breastfeeding
• Early days
• Introducing solid foods.

School Nurses are registered nurses, who have additional specialist community public health nursing training (SCPHN). They support children and families with children aged between 5 to 19 years (up to 25 years for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The service supports the health and wellbeing of the whole family, ensuring children reach their full potential.

The School Nursing service also support schools by delivering:

• assemblies at key transition points
• training for schools on management of health conditions (in Lowestoft and Waveney training is provided by James Paget Hospital NHS Trust)

The service delivers the National Child Measurement programme (weight and height) as well as hearing and vision screening.

The Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) programme is a home visiting service for first time mums, aged 21 years and under, who live in Suffolk. Family nurses, who are health visitors with specialist community public health nursing training (SCPHN), use evidence-based guidelines, materials and practical activities to support young parents, including their partner and wider family/ support network.

There are 29 Family Hub buildings in Suffolk and 48 areas in total where our 0-5 Health and Children Centre Teams deliver activities to children aged 0-5 and their families.

A Family Hub is somewhere families, parents, carers, and young people can get support. Support can include providing information, advice and guidance on subjects and issues affecting children and families, including:

• Ante-natal and midwifery services
• Health visiting and infant feeding services
• Children health and development
• Parenting advice and courses
• Special education needs and disability
• Finances (money, housing and benefits)
• Youth support and clubs
• Young people and parent's emotional well-being
• Domestic abuse / violence support
• Family learning
