Proposed Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) – Various Roads, Bury St Edmunds

Details on the changes to residents’ permit parking in all 12 Bury St Edmunds permit parking zones.

Suffolk County Council is proposing changes to the Bury St Edmunds residential permit parking scheme in all 12 parking zones, as follows:

  • Existing parking bays reserved for ‘permit holders’ or ‘resident permit holders’ only at certain times will have their operational period on Mondays to Saturdays extended to 8am to 8pm. In some zones, where such parking also operates on Sundays, there will be no change to the existing operational period on Sundays. Where parking places may currently state the type of user as ‘permit holder’, this will be redefined as ‘resident permit holder’ in all cases.
  • Existing shared bays for permit holders or resident permit holders and Pay & Display parking at certain times will have their operational period on Mondays to Saturdays extended to 8am to 8pm for both types of parking. There will be no change to the existing operational period on Sundays. Where parking places may currently state the type of user as ‘permit holder’, this will be redefined as ‘resident permit holder’ in all cases.
  • Existing shared bays for permit holders or resident permit holders and Limited Waiting parking at certain times will have their operational period on Mondays to Saturdays extended to 8am to 8pm for resident permit holders only. The existing operational period of the Limited Waiting restrictions will remain unchanged. Where parking places may currently state the type of user as ‘permit holder’, this will be redefined as ‘resident permit holder’ in all cases.

In Zone D South Town Centre, further changes are proposed, including the creation of new resident permit holder parking places, alterations to the length of some existing parking bays and new lengths of No Waiting at Any Time. Please refer to attached drawing series 228644-MIL-GEN-BSE-DR-CH-0101 to 0103 for further detail regarding the additional changes in Zone D.

The purpose of these proposals is to improve the amenities of the area by providing greater parking opportunity for residents. In Zone D at locations where ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ is proposed, the Council considers this necessary to avoid danger to persons or other traffic using the road.

Should you wish to provide a formal representation, either objecting or in support of these proposals, please refer to the contact details on the attached Notice below.
