A12 major road network improvements

Information on the A12 major road network improvements consultation.

Consultation open until Tuesday 29 October 2024.

About the proposals

We’re consulting on a range of proposals along the A12, between the A14/Seven Hills junction and the A1152/Woods Lane junction. These proposals would help to tackle congestion, provide space for future growth and improve conditions for all road users including pedestrians and cyclists.

Suffolk County Council is dedicated to enhancing local infrastructure and aiding sustainable economic recovery and growth.

The A12 scheme is designed to:

  • Introduce a new dual carriageway section between the B1438 and B1079 at Woodbridge, replacing the current single-carriageway bottleneck at Seckford Hall.
  • Upgrade key roundabouts along the A12 east of Ipswich, from the A14 at Seven Hills to the A1152 at Woods Lane.
  • Public transport improvements, including a new bus-link, and a new mobility hub in Martlesham.
  • Walking and cycling improvements, including upgrading the existing Martlesham footbridge.

These proposals would help to tackle congestion, provide space for future growth and improve conditions for all road users including pedestrians and cyclists.

About this consultation

The scheme was previously consulted on in 2021, as part of work to develop designs and an Outline Business Case. Since then, the designs have been updated to reflect the feedback received.

We are currently holding a further public consultation exercise to share information about the updated proposals and gather feedback from the community. The consultation is open until 11.59pm on Tuesday 29 October 2024.

We are also hosting three in-person drop-in events in the area, as well as an online webinar event, where you can find out more about the proposals and ask your questions.

Proposals

The proposals extend from the A12/A14 junction at Seven Hills to the A12/A1152 Woods Lane junction.

You can download a copy of the consultation brochure which contains further details on the proposals as well as maps and drawings.

The proposals include

Have your say

We are seeking feedback on the proposals to ensure they meet the needs of the community. Whether you live in, work in, or travel through the area, your feedback is crucial to shaping the A12 MRN Improvement Scheme and ensuring it benefits the community it serves.

This consultation runs from Wednesday 18 September until 11:59pm on Tuesday 29 October 2024.
